Dr. Perlow has been a partner with and Assoiate Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Phoenix Perinatal Associates, and cared for high-risk pregnancy patients in private practice for more than 30 years; 1992-2022. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, he is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School (now, the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University) and completed his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rush University Medical Center/Rush Medical College, both in Chicago. During residency, Dr. Perlow was named “Outstanding Resident of the Year” in both his third and fourth years of training, and was also selected as Chief Resident.
Dr. Perlow then completed additional sub-specialty fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of California Irvine and Long Beach Memorial Medical Centers and is board certified and re-certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Dr. Perlow has been a career-long volunteer with the March of Dimes and has served in many capacities, including on the board of directors, Director of the Folic Acid Education Program for the State of Arizona and Prematurity Awareness Campaign Chairman. He was named to serve on the National Office of Volunteers and was awarded the Distinguished Volunteer Service Award for the March of Dimes, the highest honor bestowed on a March of Dimes volunteer. He has participated in numerous television, radio and print media appearances on behalf of the March of Dimes mission. Working with the March of Dimes, Dr. Perlow created two educational CDs that were used extensively and distributed throughout the United States, as well as overseas. These CDs covered the critical topics of preterm birth, as well as the prevention of birth defects with pre-conceptional use of folic acid. Dr. Perlow hosted the nation’s first Prematurity Symposium for the March of Dimes, attended by March of Dimes’ president, Dr. Jennifer House, when the organization first launched its “prematurity campaign” to reduce the numbers of preterm births occurring in the United States.
Dr. Perlow is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM). Dr. Perlow regularly serves as a judge of scientific papers presented at the SMFM annual clinical meeting, most recently February 2023. He is a reviewer of research submitted for publication in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology (the official journal of SMFM) and Obstetrics and Gynecology (the official journal of ACOG). His academic appointment is Clinical Professor, University of Arizona College of Medicine.
He has lectured throughout the world, including India, the Philippines, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Brazil, Mexico and will soon begin teaching as a guest lecturer at Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine in Israel.
Dr. Perlow is past Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Banner University Medical Center, where he has provided maternal-fetal medicine care for more than 30 years and co-led the establishment of a world-class center of excellence for the management of patients with the highly life-threatening complication of invasive placentation. He has served as faculty member of the department, supervising and providing education to Ob/Gyn Residents and MFM Fellows for more than 3 decades.
